Betty: 1950’s Housewife Plus-Size Pinup

It’s always exciting to work with someone on pinup photographs, and never more when their personal sense of style is already like a puzzle piece straight from the 1950s. This lovely plus-size girl wanted to fulfill her long-distance boyfriend’s desire to see her as “his pretty little housewife” so we explored a few fantastic pin-up ideas.

How much do you know about the history of pinup? The pin-up girl is the epitome of the idea that started boudoir photography in the first place! Sexy photos that show off how risque you can be without being totally on display are a big part of the history of my style of photography boudoir. A pin-up girl is flirtatious, but still totally the everyday girl-next-door!

A few features of the well-drawn pinup girl that still work for photographs today include very pronounced curves – making her the ideal choice for ladies that have voluptuous assets. A pinup girl is always dressed in something very fancy or sometimes just that old birthday suit! They are often posed to show off as much skin as possible, and sometimes in more extreme (and more than a little suggestive) poses which aren’t necessarily ideal or even possible for the real woman. When working with a girl for a pin-up session, I take a lot of care to pose her carefully, catch the shot, and then allow her out of that pose as quickly as possible if it’s not comfortable!

Hair and Makeup for a pinup shoot give you lots of options – but very carefully shaped knock-your-socks-off coloured lips are always necessary. If you like Marilyn Monroe style, you might consider adopting a dark mole! As for your hair, everything from fancy updos to flowing locks to bandanas will make your 50’s pinup look work well. Make sure your cheeks are rosy and your lashes are thick – all the better for looking out at your big bust-em-up gentleman, right?

Pinup girls are always enjoying something fabulous – a fur coat, a vintage glass of Coca-Cola, a flirtatious look, or even something more everyday like vacumming the living room in her underwear… a fantasy only a man would have, right ladies? In real life, it’s yoga pants and a big t-shirt for that!

Pinup girls are a great way to explore a sexy side of ourselves – and they work for nearly every age, shape, and style. I’m always happy to explore vintage pinup styles in my sessions, alongside a few more modern sensual photos.

I would be totally pumped if you’d get your Pinup boudoir shoot in Edmonton with Seven Deadly Sins!

These images were taken at our Intimate studio. This lovely lady’s identity has been protected for this shoot – so you’ll see a few photos with a pinup girl’s head pasted over hers…

That’s What She Said

She said she was unphotogenic, that she rarely liked any pictures of her because she looked bad. That’s what she said, anyway. She even booked one of my longer packages, just to make sure something would turn out. What do you think of how she looks in these? She works as a mechanic – often as one of the guys, and I absolutely love how she brought the biggest wrench she could find home with her – and that she’d actually had to use it in real life before. Pretty awesome.

Red Hot Boudoir

I had an absolutely amazing time laughing with Alison as we worked together to make her boudoir photos shine. It was awesome to work in her nice red bedroom with the black lattice headboard, and she was very good at following my posing directions – and especially a good sport when poses weren’t as comfortable as they look. We had a really good rapport and I appreciated her trust as we worked together. I am looking forward to hearing how the photos go over with her man!

Candice’s “Vegas” Themed Room Boudoir

I had the privilege of working with Candice for an extended shoot in one of the themed rooms in the famed Fantasyland Hotel – and she graciously allowed me to post any images I wanted – which was great, because seldom do I get to work in a room as grandiose as this one with so pretty a lady! The only hard thing was dealing with the sun-and-clouds day since the light in the room varied wildly from one moment to the next – but I worked with it and found some amazing moments. This is a wedding gift for her man, and I think he’s going to love it.

Are you considering boudoir as a gift for that special someone?
I’d love to talk to you about it!

Feathers, Flowers, and Bright Eyes

Cupcake Girl‘s Cousin had some amazing boudoir shots at the Matrix Hotel. This feather-loving girl also chose the Deadly Boudoir package. She had some incredible shots that I really love, with those intense blue eyes and her languid lounging! The three of us girls had a blast together. I was totally in love with some of the amazing props – like the pink feather fans – and lingere. Not only that, but her initial glamour shots also turned out amazing. I’m loving every minute of editing these photos!

Do you love these boudoir images?  Want boudoir photos done?
This session is an example of the Smokin’ Boudoir package.

Seven Deadly Sins has you covered.
Or maybe not so covered!

Danger Girl

Okay, so this girl had some pretty sweet gear on her for our session together – from a completely custom Motorhead corset to some femme fatale accessories, the first half of this shoot was pretty dangerous – and then we switched gears a bit and made the most dangerous part of the second half of our session getting soap in your eyes. Or maybe falling in the tub! From danger to bubbles in one easy step! It’s always awesome to be able to explore more than one side of a person in their boudoir photos, and this is one of the most interesting combinations yet!

Also, please enjoy the introduction of the new storyboard format from Admire Studios for images on Seven Deadly Sins!

Boudoir Stagette – No Shirt, but Shoes!!!

These ladies were just FANTASTIC to work with, and they were exactly the kind of girls who make a boudoir stagette sizzle! Make sure you check out some of their individual images as well. These photos were taken at The Matrix Hotel in Edmonton, which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in having their boudoir photos taken in a hotel room. Each of the ladies had a great sense of style, which made each of them unique to work with. They each took turns putting together an outfit and then spending about 5-7 minutes with me – a bit longer for the lucky bride, of course – and these awesome photos were the result.

What to Prepare and Wear to Your Session

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted to the boudoir side of my business (Fall Family Photos just keep going and going this year!) but I’ve got some information to share to help you prepare for your shoot with Seven Deadly Sins!

What Will the Photographer Bring?
Myself, a key ingredient… A camera and lenses (obviously) and lighting equipment with extension cords. If you don’t have a lot of natural light in your home or bedroom, these will come out! If you feel like your house is pretty dark or any of your spaces are, keep in mind where your plugins are for me. Finally, a selection of very simple, pretty universal props – various kinds of sensuous cloth, fake red rose petals for those who like that look, pearl strings in a few colours, and occasionally other things. I don’t bring outfits, and hair and makeup are not included in session fees.

What Do I Need?

If you have lingerie you like, compile a selection of 1-3 outfits to choose from while we’re working. If you’d prefer to just use sheets/cover-ups and a few simple props, that’s fine too. Cute PJs are great for an innocent look! Pick out a few pairs of your favourite heels if you have a collection, but bare feet are nice as well. OR, Think Theme! Check out Persuasion Boudoir in Hampton Roads, Virginia for some unified ideas – there’s a new post every “Thematic Thursday” to help you check out ideas that could create your look.

IDEAS! If you are getting boudoir photographs done as a gift (even for yourself!), then can you include some aspect of your relationship or your personality in the photos? ]Are there any stories from you and your lover’s history together that you might want to consider? Anything you’ve been told is sexy? Here’s a great site I found for a U.S. photographer who posts theme ideas for shoots. If you are doing this as a gift for a loved one and he cheers for any sports teams that there’s a jersey hanging about for, or if you have a favourite book in common, if there’s any hobby stuff of his that we could use as a prop (model car, gaming controller, etc.), those would be great things to bring! Fur coats are very luxurious if you have one or access to one, and leather coats are an option as well. And if you saw a boudoir photo or two you truly love on your hunt for the right photographer, we can try to recreate something similar for you

How Do I Set Up The House?
Get rid of as much clutter as you can! Clutter even includes neatly kept storage stuff that will possibly appear in the background of your photos – the least distracting view possible is best, so we can make YOU stand out, not your stuff! Typically, we’ll work in the bedroom, the living room. If you want to be a bit more adventurous, you might try something different: the kitchen, the office space, if you have a cool claw-foot tub or jaccuzi/pool in and around your home that’s also an option. Think outside the box for something really unique, and I’ll make suggestions too.

Hope this post has been a helpful journey! Any questions or other ideas can be left in the comments, I’d be happy to speak with you about your ideas any time.
